Blake Lively talks to Elle Decor about her Kitchen

Blake Lively has recently moved homes and is settling into married life with hubby Ryan Reynolds. The actress is featured in the latest issue of ELLE Décor, speaking about her new house.

Describing her new pad, she says: “The location is great. And we loved the kitchen. It’s really the family room.”

She also confesses that she has some competition when it comes to using the oven too. Whilst she says that she uses it the most, she adds “But I’ll have to fight my mom for it. She is an amazing chef. We’ve got a big family, and we’re very close. My brothers are great at the pies and the girls usually do the savory things.”

When it came to the design of her house, she did it herself and trusted her instincts. “You have to go with your instinct. If you don’t try it, you end up doing it later anyway, and then you end up paying to do it twice! There are things that I just have to try. And yes, sometimes it doesn’t work, but I really think you should just do what makes you happy.”

Picking a color was the hardest decision to make though, and while she considered fuchsia and oxblood, she eventually settled on ‘ocean blue’ (a hue that, incidentally, is not listed on the La Cornue website, so may be a custom shade). ‘I wanted something daring but also timeless,’ she explained. ‘I wanted to feel like I could change up other parts of the kitchen and the oven would remain classic.

‘At first I thought a fuchsia or oxblood, but the blue seems like a bold color that’s still grounded, because it has a little bit of a grey undertone.’

Classic it may be, but a blue range is still a bold choice, indicating that Ms Lively is prepared to take the same risks with her home as she is with her fashion choices. ‘You have to go with your instinct,’ she advised. ‘If you don’t try it, you end up doing it later anyway, and then you end up paying to do it twice!  ‘There are things that I just have to try. And yes, sometimes it doesn’t work, but I really think you should just do what makes you happy.’
