Plenty of ‘Gossip’ in CW future

Gossip Girl became a hit so fast! Drama, drama, drama. And now the CW Netwok has bought in several more episodes according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The CW’s “Gossip Girl” has become fall’s first new series to get a full-season pickup.

The network has picked up the back-nine episodes of the freshman drama series, bringing its total order to 22 hours.

“Gossip” has gotten off to a soft start since its Sept. 19 debut, losing a significant portion of its “America’s Next Top Model” lead-in. However, the CW said the show has been gaining buzz online and on platforms like iTunes, where the two most recent episodes rank among the top five downloaded shows.

The network also said that the Sept. 19 premiere saw its target-demo ratings increase when DVR data was factored in, jumping 20% among adults 18-34, 21% in women 18-34 and 11% among female teens, according to Nielsen Media Research Live+7cq figures.

Season-to-date, the series is averaging a 2.8 rating/7 share in women 18-34, a 1.9/5 in adults 18-34, a 4.7/15 in female teens and 3 million total viewers at 9 p.m. Wednesdays.

“People everywhere are talking about ‘Gossip Girl,’ and we believe this show will continue to build audience as it builds buzz,” CW president of entertainment Dawn Ostroff said. “Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage have created an incredibly heightened-reality world that viewers are locking into, while advertisers, affiliates and press have also embraced the show. The series has earned its early pickup, and we look forward to a long run on the CW.”

“Gossip,” based on the popular series of young-adult novels by Cecily von Ziegesar, follows privileged prep school teens on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. The cast includes Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Penn Badgley, Chace Crawford, Taylor Momsen and Ed Westwick.

The series, which is produced by Alloy Entertainment in association with Warner Bros. Television and CBS Paramount Network Television, is executive produced by Schwartz, Savage, Bob Levy and Leslie Morgenstein.
