We are pleased to share with you the first still for Blakes upcoming film Age of Adaline. (HQ now added) In the film, Blake is going to stay young and beautiful forever. Literally.
The film which is due out April 24th 2015, stars Blake as Adaline, born at the turn of the century and rendered ageless after a mysterious accident in the 1930s. Director Lee Toland Krieger believes Lively, 27, is ideal casting.
“She sort of embodies a woman who is perfect physically, so in that regard, she’s a perfect fit,” says Krieger. “Also, for someone who is 27 years old, she’s wildly sophisticated and seems like an old soul.”
Yet the filmmaker also was compelled by a bigger reason to cast Lively in the leading role, which had Hollywood luminaries such as Katherine Heigl and Natalie Portman attached in various project incarnations. Lively, who is expecting a baby with husband Ryan Reynolds, lobbied for the part with great ideas, says Krieger. Further, Lively has flexed her acting muscles only sparingly, in acclaimed supporting performances such as 2010’s The Town.
“The chance to see Blake carry a movie like this for the first time is really exciting,” says Krieger. “She rises to the occasion.”
Portraying the character through the decades was a well-suited bonus for fashionista Lively. She was able to tap her designer friends for period costumes crafted by Gucci and Dior.
“To put Blake, who would look good in a trash bag, in the great clothing from all of these eras was kind of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” says Krieger.
Of course, being immortal has its severe complications. As Adaline stays forever young, her daughter continues to age and surpasses her. In the present, her daughter is played by 81-year-old Ellen Burstyn. It makes for a jarring juxtaposition.
“It was one of the elements of the film I was most nervous about,” says Krieger. “But you instantly believe them as mother and daughter. I know it sounds a bit crazy.”
With all of her contemporaries, friends and lovers dying off, Adaline becomes a beautiful recluse — afraid of getting hurt by more love and loss. This changes when she meets a charismatic philanthropist (Michiel Huisman) who takes her to his parents’ home (played by Harrison Ford and Kathy Baker) for the weekend.
Although the weekend and the relationship put Adaline’s immortal status in peril, Krieger says there is a positive message.
“It sounds like wish fulfillment to look like Blake Lively forever. But she cannot grow old with anyone,” says Krieger. “In a world consumed with youth and vanity, there’s something very fresh and beautiful about a story focusing on the beauty of growing old.
“I’d like to think you walk away from this thinking love conquers all, even immortality.”
Blake Lively and Martha Stewart reunited at Stewart’s American Made event in NYC last night (Saturday November 8th) Despite Stewart’s past subtle jabs at the mom-to-be’s new lifestyle site Preserve, the women hit it off during their panel, with Stewart introducing Lively as her “friend and neighbor.”
Mrs. Ryan Reynolds, 27, looked relaxed as she took the stage, wearing a long-sleeve flowing white dress and turquoise-colored statement necklace. “You looked very different when I last saw you,” Stewart teased of her baby bump. During their exchange, the Gossip Girl alum opened up about both her professional and personal life.
Blake was also spotted in NYC earlier that day, candids can be found here.
Blake was snapped in NYC wearing one of her cosy fashion cloaks (which you can buy from Preserve here) her matching lippy finished off the classy look – love!
Blake Lively was glowing as she left the Christian Louboutin store in NYC on Friday. The pregnant actress was layered up in florals and stripes and kept a smile on her face as she headed out of the boutique and into a waiting cab. Blake has been out and about in the Big Apple quite a bit since announcing her pregnancy in early October — we’ve spotted her on multiple prebaby shopping trips as well as on the red carpet.
Blake Lively gazed into the eyes of her husband Ryan Reynolds at the Angel Ball at Cipriani Wall Street in Manhattan last night (October 20th). The parents-to-be – who are expecting their first child – celebrated their second wedding anniversary last month. The glowing 27-year-old took the plunge in a yellow long-sleeved gown, and she accessorised with Ofira Sandberg jewelry.
Ryan, who turns 38 on Thursday has been considering several names for his unborn child. ‘On the plane over here I was trying to think of baby names,’ Ryan told Canada’s eTalk. ‘I don’t want a name that’s anything pretentious or, like, Hollywood-y. So I’m going with Excalibur Anaconda Reynolds…that’s if it’s a girl.’
Blake said ‘I never knew what I wanted to do for a living but I knew I wanted to have a lot of kids because I had come from a big family, so it was always important to me. So it’s just the excitement of that finally being here.’
Last Friday, Lively – born Brown – shared snaps from her autumn-themed outdoor baby shower on her lifestyle/E-commerce website, Preserve.us.
‘With a new baby on the way there is so much to do! ‘But before experiencing the joy of 3am screams, seemingly impossible amounts of poop and having a favorite shirt covered in reflux…there are presents to open, onesies to dye, there is cake to serve, advice to be shared and all around celebration to be had. And that we did.’
We added photos from the event last night and the Preserve Baby Shower Shoot to the gallery …
